Service and Preventive Maintenance
Following
installation, distribution transformers involve periodic service and preventative maintenance.
Dry Type transformers
require regular inspection and cleaning, including testing and repair
of all ventilation fans and torque-testing all electrical connections.
Oil Filled Transformers (both Substation and Padmount) also
require a Digital Gas Analysis (DGA), where oil samples are drawn and
submitted to a third party testing laboratory for detection of
combustible gases which can be caused by overloads or internal arcing
that can build to a point of explosion.
