Q&A with Our Service Manager

Tom Lewis YE Service Manager

How long have you been in the electrical industry?

I’ve been working for electrical contractors since 2005, when I joined R&M Electric in Alexandria, VA.

Tell us about your education and training.

I graduated from WSU in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.  In 2005, I started the electrical apprentice program in Fairfax County, VA.  I received my electrical journeyman’s license in Wichita in 2008.

What’s the best thing about being an Electrician?

As a service electrician, I enjoyed being presented with a new puzzle to solve every day, and in that process, making people’s lives safer.

How long have you been in Kansas and do you have any favorite local businesses?

I grew-up in the Rose Hill, Kansas, area.  I lived in Alexandria, Virginia, from 2005 to 2008, while my wife attended graduate school there.  We have been back in Wichita since 2008. My favorite local business is the College Hill Il Vicino.

Tell us more about yourself. What do you like to do in your free time?

I’ve been married to my lovely wife, Laurie, for over 20 years.  We have two growing boys, TJ (16) and Alexander (11).  On first meeting me, you’ll find I’m taller than most, and shorter than some at 6’ 6”.  I have been a certified SCUBA diver and instructor since 1994, though I don’t get to dive much these days.  In 2017, I began my newest hobby as an active beekeeper.

What’s it like to be part of the Young Electric team?

It feels good to be part of a work family where my work ethic is appreciated and rewarded.  It’s nice to enjoy what I do for a living.
